Aaron Copland - Clarinet Concerto
George Gershwin - Porgy and Bess Fantasy
Faure’s incidental music to Maeterlinck’s classic play Pelleas et Mellisande is one of his most popular works, written at breakneck speed for the stage production in 1893. The play hit a nerve and inspired some amazing music by Debussy, Schoenberg & Sibelius.
The wonderful symphonic suite from Gershwin’s epoch defining Porgy and Bess is just that, a continuous orchestral suite of the show’s biggest hits, arranged for orchestra and made popular by the hugely talented Ian Farrington. Gerswhin’s own suite, Catfish Row, missed out all the best numbers, so this is a little correction on behalf of history!

Turnage has a distinctive musical personality, with aggressive and energetic qualities contrasted with lyricism and tenderness, projected across his large catalogue of orchestral, chamber, choral and vocal works, as well as two large-scale operas.
