Ensemble DME was created in 2013 as part of the DME Project, an initiative founded by the composer Jaime Reis to promote contemporary and electroacoustic music practice. Its main conductors are Pedro Pinto Figueiredo and Jean-Sébastien Béreau.
Ensemble DME has performed in numerous concert halls and festivals, among which we highlight Logos Foundation (Gent, Belgium), a tour in Brazilian universities with around twenty concerts, Auditorio Santa María (Plasencia, Spain), Casa da Música (Porto), Palácio Foz and Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (Lisbon).
Ensemble DME has four phonographic editions, including monographs by Mario Mary (CMMAS label) and João Pedro Oliveira, and editions focusing on works by contemporary Portuguese authors for viola, by Aida-Carmen Soanea, and for piano, by Ana Telles.
With a decade of activity, Ensemble DME has performed works by composers such as Brian Ferneyhough, Christopher Bochmann, Elliott Carter, Gerhard Stäbler, Gérard Grisey, Jaime Reis, Jean-Sébastien Béreau, Lula Romero and Ludger Brümmer.
Currently, its work has been oriented towards multidisciplinary projects, where we highlight the premiere of Jaime Reis’ work “Geometrias do Inelidível”, produced by EMSCAN in 2022, and the concert co-organized with the Italian Institute of Culture of Lisbon, “Esplorazioni”, dedicated to the relationship between space and sound, with the Italian composer and conductor Valerio Sannicandro, including premieres of his works and of the composer and architect Diogo Alvim.
